Memorial Day Ride to Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery
May 24, 2014
The weather could not have been better for the ride today. Sunshine and warm temperatures were the order of the day. We assembled at Rice Lake Harley-Davidson and after a couple of donuts and hot dogs...and BS...we went Kick Stands Up right on time at 11:30. There were seven bikes with 8 folks aboard. We had a nice leisurely ride up Hwy 53 to the Veterans Cemetery where we were met by the Patriot Guard Riders and members of several other organizations as well.
Flags were provided by the PGR and we assembled the Flag Line for the 12:30 reading of the casualties from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The ceremony started at 1:00 with posting of The Colors, speeches, a fly-over of vintage aircraft and other events. The Northwoods Brass Band provided music and everything went very well. At the conclusion of the ceremony we stood down and some of reassembled for the ride back to Rice Lake.
I'd like to thank everyone who participated in this meaningful ride and event. I know it was a long time to stand in the sun and everyone hung in there and did the Chapter proud.
