H.O.G.s and Heroes

November 11, 2011

There was snow in the air early but the skies cleared and the sun shone brightly during the afternoon.

Rice Lake Harley-Davidson put on a Pancake Breakfast for everyone, to honor Veterans on their day. There was a nice turnout at the dealership where American Flags and Red, White and Blue were in abundance.

At 11:30 members of the Blue Hills HOG Chapter, along with members of the EZE Riders Chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association and Patriot Guard Riders assembled for the ride north. Rice Lake law enforcement held traffic for the 20 plus motorcycles and vehicles as we made our way out to Hwy 53. It was a nice ride north on the highway to the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery where we met the Assistant State Captain of the Wisconsin Patriot Guard, who had flags for us all to carry. We formed two lines of flags and assembled along the front edges of the visitor’s tent, where we stood the Flag Line for the entire ceremony, honoring Veterans, with an emphasis on women Veterans.

There were various speakers who offered thanks and the Spooner Select Choir sang several songs. After the ceremony, which lasted about an hour, we returned our flags to the PGR and said our good-byes.

Thank you to all who participated in this annual Chapter tradition and thank you to Matt Bergs for inviting us to participate in the ceremony. Thanks also to the Patriot Guard Riders for providing the Flags and RLHD for the pancake breakfast.
